Class Materials: All required materials will be furnished by the Gainesville High School Art Department. If a student wants to use different or extra materials than required they must have Mr. Emery’s permission first. They may be required to purchase
the extra materials. Materials are provided for all GHS art students, if they waste or destroy art materials or equipment detention or repayment of materials or equipment can be assigned.
Homework: Due at the beginning of class on Wednesdays. If your homework is not turned in at the beginning of class
your homework grade automatically drops to 89.Your homework grade will drop 10 points for every day it is late.
Grading: Your projects will be graded on sketchbook entries, use of the Elements and Principles of design, craftsmanship, originality, use of material, interpretation in solving the assigned project and work habits. You can refer to
the Davis Poster on the bulletin board by the front door to get a visual idea of the quality of work I will be looking for in your projects.

What do I need to work on? Craftsmanship/Neatness-Presentation –Composition/Design-Following Criteria- Work HabitsTurning Projects In:
If a student requires more time on a project talk to Mr. Emery. If extra time is needed the student most likely would need to start the new project with the class and complete the unfinished project before school, at lunch, after school or at home. Check syllabus for more information. Students that have not talked to Mr. Emery about extended due dates will lose 5 points
for the first week it is late and 10 points for every week after the first 5 points are deducted. If you need to take extra materials or tools home please check with Mr. Emery.
Test Days: Announced atleast 3 days before the test day.
Cheating or Copying: Any cheating or copying can result in detention, a grade of zero on the project and/or lost of final exam exemption. Do Not copy artwork unless it serves a purpose in your project and you give the artist create. Do Not copy
anything that is copyrighted. If you want to copy something for a project talk to Mr. Emery first.
Absences: Students will have two days to make up work for every day missed. Special circumstances may warrant
teacher or administrative discretion for allowing different arrangements. If you are absence it is your responsibility to find out what you need to make up.Check the GHS Student Handbook for more information.
Tardy: Tardiness will follow the GHS rules. Students not
in my classroom when the bell rings will be marked as tardy. A student that is
more that 10 minutes late is AWOL and will be turned in for skipping. Check the
GHS Student Handbook for more information.

The daily Moment of Silence is mandated by the state of GA. The moment of silence can be used by each student as they
desire as long as they are quiet. Thank You
The daily pledge of allegiance is recited to honor our country and especially the man and women who have served and are serving in the military. The custom is to stand, face the American flag, place your right hand over your heart and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. If you do not want to stand or recite the pledge I ask that you remain silent in respect for those students and Mr. Emery who will recite the pledge. Thank You
Remember that we may not always agree with
everyone but we can show respect.
General Art Studio Rules
DO NOT TOUCH any ones project except your own!
Character: Poor character judgment will result in losing points from the project the student is working on at the time of the incident. Poor character will result in atleast five points taken from your project. Point deductions depend on the severity of the poor judgment Mr. Emery will warn a student first unless the behavior demands immediate attention. Immediate attention does not require a warning and results in five points deduction, detention, and possible behavior letter or trip to an administrators
office.
Food & Drinks: You are allowed to drink water during class time. Do Not eat during class time.
Student ID’s: Since various materials and equipment can become a safety factor for students, they can show Mr. Emery their GHS Student ID at the beginning of class and then remove their ID while working in Mr. Emery’s art room. If ID’s are removed the
student must make sure they are wearing their ID when they leave Mr. Emery’s art room.
Presentations & Videos: Please be Quiet and no restroom passes are given during presentations and videos.
Project Storage: Store you projects in the appropriate area.
Safety Rules: Follow all safety rules as directed. For example: always wear goggles when using power tools, take IDs off
while using power tools, do not play with the tools,
Seating Chart: No more than 6 students to a table. Seats are not assigned unless Mr. Emery feels it is necessary.
Work Areas: If you do not clean your work area or return materials and tools to their appropriate space, 5 points can be subtracted from your projects grade for that day and /or detention can be assigned. Stay in your work area during class time unless you are getting supplies or other materials. Do Not walk around the room bothering other students.
Work Habits: Work habits will be using class time wisely to work on your art projects, appropriate peer interaction, and having appropriate materials to work with.
Classroom Electronic Use Policy: 1. Electronic devices (cell phones, iPads, tablets, music players, etc.) are to remain on silent and put away during class time, unless Mr. Emery has instructed you to use them for a class activity.Failure to follow this guideline will result in confiscation of the electronic device for the remainder of the period. Continued failure to follow this guideline will result in disciplinary referral. 2. Digital recording (audio and/or video) or photography with electronic devices
may not be done without prior approval of Mr. Emery. ASK before taking pictures of any individual or recording any activities. Failure to do so will result in confiscation of electronic device and/or disciplinary referral. 3. Practice appropriate digital citizenship at all times when using electronic devices in this classroom. For our classroom, Digital Citizenship is defined as
"Critical thinking and ethical choices about the content and impact on oneself, others, and one's community of what one sees, says, and produces with media, devices, and technologies.” [i]In other words: THINK before you engage in online

1. Remember the golden rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated.
2. While working everyone in the classroom is responsible for the condition of the classroom space.
3. When finished working, clean your area and any studio equipment or tools you used.
4. Return Tools (cleaned) to their proper location after you use them.
5. Label your projects so everyone knows whose project they are looking at.
6. Ask Permission before you borrow someone else’s supplies or equipment.
7. Be fair in your use of table surfaces and storage areas.
8. Plan ahead, allow ample time for deadlines.
9. Limit noise. Keep loud conversations outside the classroom.
10. Show consideration when a teacher or just speaker is lecturing or helping another student.
11. Show Respect and make constructive comments when you are critiquing another artist’s artwork. If you have a
negative comment then also add a positive comment.
